Saving Energy Part 2: The Eco Home

Lets put the ECO into our homes

Let's put the ECO into our homes

We have heard of a lot of different ways to save energy. But what we really want to know is what methods actually help us save money. Whether there are appliances and information that actually help us do this, and where they can be found.

Check out The Energy Saving Trust’sHome Energy Check.  See how ‘eco firendly’ your home is.

Here are some tips and information ‘hot spots’ on saving energy in your life.

1. TURN OFF appliances when not in use.

2. Check out Government Schemes giving grants and offers. See if these are available to you. This may be a great opportunity for you to make your home an ‘eco home.’

3. Look for the ‘Energy Saving Recommended Logo‘ on products before purchasing them. Find out which products will be energy saving in your home by product comparison.

4. Find out what measures can be taken to change your home. Things including insulation and glazing.

5. Generate your own energy. Technologies like solar panels and wind turbines are becoming more popular for this use. Even some areas have developed schemes that allow people to do this. The Rural Generation Zone is just one of them.

6. Even find out if your garden can be sustainable.

As an extra tip, Travel LIGHT. Try cycling, being a method of transport that would be environmentally friendly.

See the difference you can make with becoming an eco friendly home. Whether it be immediate or a life long process, making the decision to take that step is the main thing.
